MLB news

So, here's today's iteration of MLB news.
1.Last night, during the White Sox's 10-0 loss to the Houston Astros, White Sox pitcher Danny Farquhar collapsed in the dugout, apparently suffered a brain hemorrhage. He was carted off to the hospital by paramedics and is currently recovering.
2. Matt Harvey's early struggles for the Mets this season has led to a bullpen demotion. A few days after Manager Mickey Calloway said he wouldn't commit to starting Harvey, the Dark Knight was shipped to the bullpen in the hope he can bounce back and become a force in the starting rotation. Harvey, However, doesn't agree with the move, saying to reporters "on a scale of 1 to 10, I'm a 10 at being pissed off." Harvey is in a contract year, so he hopes he can bounce back and resign with the Mets.
3. In the Astros 10-0 win over the White Sox yesterday, Justin Verlander had a no hitter entering the 5th inning. Tim Anderson hit a nice base hit into left field for the Sox, ending the no-hit bid. He then proceeded to celebrate a little too much. Verlander said "he was a little overaggressive, and I let him know it."
4. The San Diego Padres almost threw their 1st no hitter in franchise history last night against the D-Backs. They are the only team in the MLB who hasn't thrown one, though Tyson Ross was determined to end that with a no-hitter going through 7 2/3 innings against the D-Backs. Alas, it was too good to be true, and the D-Backs ended up getting 1 run in a 4-1 loss. The no hit struggle will continue for the Padres, at least for now.
5. Even though the Padres didn't get that no hitter against the D-Backs, they can say that they've hit the longest homer in 2018. Franchy Cordero hit a 489 foot homer last night, becoming the longest this year and the Padres's longest in statcast history.
6. This isn't MLB, but it is noteworthy. Old Rochester Regional High School in Plymouth County, MA, played a game against Notre Dame Cristo Rey in Lawrence, MA. Little did the coach know they were playing the wrong Notre Dame Cristo Rey. Rochester then proceeded to obliterate Cristo Rey, winning the game 82-0. Rochester coach Steve Carvalho had this to say after the game. "I'm sick to my stomach over this. We really tried everything possible. We told the kids no extra bases, no sprinting, we even had kids bunting and they couldn't make the routine plays. We had kids hitting balls 300 feet and jogging to first. We even asked that they stop the game after 4 innings and they said no. Believe me, we exhausted all options in our power." Old Rochester scored 12 in the 1st inning, 20 in the 2nd, and didn't stop there. While this score is the most lopsided win in Massachusetts history, it doesn't come close to the National record, set in 1928, when a team from Iowa won 109-0.
