1. Carlos Gomez of the Tampa Bay Rays was placed on the 10 day DL with a right groin strain on Wednesday. To fill his spot on the roster, Tampa has called up Christian Arroyo from Triple A Durham
2. During a dominant shutout against the Angels on Wednesday, Justin Verlander racked up his 2,500th strikeout while tossing a 5 hit shutout
3. The Red Sox have placed RP Carson Smith on the 10 day DL due to a shoulder injury suffered on Monday. Smith said that “I think my shoulder’s tired in general, just from pitching,” and “I’ve thrown a lot lately and I think my arm was just tired.”
4. Matt Wieters of the Washington Nationals underwent surgery to repair his left hamstring on Wednesday. He was pulled from a game against the D-Backs on May 10 and was placed on the DL a day after.
5. The Manny Machado sweepstakes is heating up, folks. The Chicago Cubs have said that Machado will be their main trade deadline target this year. The Cubs are one of several teams to ask about Machado and are expected to begin negotiations with the Orioles this summer.
