Daniel Murphy, Rockies agree to deal

The Colorado Rockies and Second Baseman Daniel Murphy have agreed to a 2 year, $24 million deal, first reported by Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports. There is a option for a third year. He'll earn $10 million in 2019 and $8 million in 2020, with a mutual option for $12 million or a $6-million buyout in 2021. Murphy, who is a 3 time all star and 2 time Silver Slugger, split last season with the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs, posting a combined .790 OPS in an injury-shortened season. DJ Lemahieu is the starting second baseman in Colorado, but recent injuries could move Murphy to first base, which would put Ian Desmond in the Outfield. Murphy is coming off a 3 year $37.5 million contract he signed with the Nats after a terrific 2015 postseason.
