Indians sign Gonzalez to minor league deal

The Cleveland Indians have agreed to a minor league deal with outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, as first reported by Bob Nightengale. If Gonzalez is not on the major league roster in early April, he can opt out of his contract. If he makes the major league team, he will earn $2 million with $1 million extra in incentives. The Indians lost outfield depth this offseason, and Gonzalez can provide a power bat, as he was hitting solid before a fall off in September and October.

Gonzalez is a three time all star and three time gold glove winner. However, he was not the best outfielder last season, as he recorded a minus-8 in defensive runs saved, according to FanGraphs. Gonzalez has averaged a .287 batting average and has 231 Home Runs in his 11 year MLB career. He spent 10 of those seasons playing for the Colorado Rockies.
