Sale gets 5 year extension

The Boston Red Sox have extended ace Chris Sale for 5 years and $145 million, according to Ken Rosenthal. Sale said in his press conference earlier today that "I flat-out told them, 'I want to be here."
There is an opt out included after the 2022 season, and their is a 6th year vesting option that depends on games started, that will be around $20 million in value. There are also clauses that give Sale more money based on where he finishes in Cy Young voting.

Sale also gets a full no trade clause that takes effect halfway through 2020. The contract goes into effect after this season, where Sale will earn $15 million. Sale said that "I think it's pretty fair for both sides. That's why I signed it." Sale has averaged a 2.56 ERA over his two seasons in Boston. He finished in the top 5 in Cy Young voting both times.
