Yankees net LHP Gonzalez on minor league deal

The New York Yankees and LHP Gio Gonzalez have agreed to a minor league deal, according to Joel Sherman. If Gonzalez is not on the Yankees major league roster by April 20, he can opt out of the deal and he will become a free agent. If he makes the MLB roster, he will earn $3 million with additional incentives based on games started.

Gonzalez provides the Yankees with rotation depth, until Luis Severino gets back in May due to an inflamed Rotator Cuff, and CC Sabathia won't be back until mid April due to offseason heart surgery and a five game suspension that he has yet to serve. Gonzalez pitched 171 innings last season between the Washington Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers, While striking out 148 and walking 80 batters. Gonzalez went 3-0 with a 2.13 ERA after being traded to Milwaukee, helping them reach the NLCS, where they lost to the Dodgers in seven games.
