Clevinger out for at least 6 weeks

The Cleveland Indians will be without a key starter for an extended period of time. Indians manager Terry Francona announced that Mike Clevinger has been placed on the 10 day injured list(IL) and will be out for 6-8 weeks with an upper back strain. Clevinger left Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays with the problem after striking out 10 and allowing 1 hit over the first 5 innings. Clevinger joins a growing IL in Cleveland that already includes Bradley Zimmer, Danny Salazar, Francisco Lindor, and Jason Kipnis.

No replacement starter has been named for Clevinger's next scheduled start on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals, but Adam Plutko could be called up from Triple A Columbus. Plutko had a 5.28 ERA over 17 appearances and 76 2/3 innings for Cleveland last year. To fill Clevinger's roster spot, The Indians called up RHP Nick Wittgren from Triple A Columbus.
