Phillies accuse Rhame of deliberately throwing at Hoskins

The New York Mets-Philadelphia Phillies rivalry seems about ready to boil over. Tensions were high at the end of the Mets' 9-0 win yesterday, when RHP Jacob Rhame threw behind Phillies 1B/OF Rhys Hoskins' head. Hoskins stared down Rhame and both benches empited, but there was nothing beyond that. Rhame ended up walking Hoskins, but not before he sailed another pitch in the area of his head. Many Phillies voiced their frustrations postgame.

Manager Gabe Kapler said that "It sure looked like it to me. It damn sure did look like it." Hoskins said that "He didn't miss up-and-in or out-and-up to a lefty the rest of the inning, so I'll let you decide." Tensions were also high during Monday's game, with Mets players Wilson Ramos and Pete Alonso being hit by Phillie pitching, and the lopsided score last night led some to believe Rhame intentionally threw at Hoskins to get back at Philly. Bryce Harper didn't like where Rhame threw his pitches, saying that "I understand that two of their guys got hit yesterday, but, I mean, if it's baseball and you're going to drill somebody, at least hit him in the ass. Not in the head."

Rhame quickly came to his own defense. After the game, he said that he was "just trying to work inside" on Hoskins during the at bat. When Rhame was asked about Hoskins' reaction, he said that "When you accidentally sail one, it's probably pretty scary. I'd get pissed, too." The series concludes tonight.
