Ketel Marte and Carson Kelly homered in an 8 run third inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks downed the Toronto Blue Jays 8-2 to complete a sweep. Robbie Ray struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings for the D-Backs. After a 5 game losing streak, Arizona has now won 6 of 8 games. The D-Backs recorded their 5th sweep of 2019, while the Blue Jays were dealt their 7th of the year.

Toronto jumped ahead early in the first inning when Lourdes Gurriel Jr homered to left, and got another in the second when Danny Jensen doubled to left to take a 2-0 lead. The 8 run third for Arizona started with a homer by Marte to left field. Kevin Cron then hit a 2 run single to make it 3-2 Arizona, and then Tim Locastro tripled with the bases loaded, clearing them and making it 6-2. Next up was Kelly, who homered to left on the first pitch to make it 8-2, which ended up holding throughout.

Ray allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and one walk, while striking out 10. He became the second D-Backs pitcher in club history to strike out 10 or more hitters in 3 straight games against the American League. Randy Johnson was the other, and did it in 2000 and 2001. Ray struck out 10 vs Texas and 11 vs Tampa Bay prior to this start. Clayton Richard allowed 7 runs on 7 hits in 2 2/3 innings for Toronto, season worsts.

The Diamondbacks head to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies, where Taylor Clarke gets the start against Jerad Eickhoff for the Phils. The Jays head to Baltimore, where righty Trent Thornton will start the series on Tuesday. The Orioles have not yet named a starter.
