At Coors Field, a game is never over until the final out is recorded because of how the ball flies out of the park. Comebacks are always possible here, just ask the San Diego Padres. In the 12th inning, Hunter Renfroe hit his third homer of the game, capping a massive comeback to win 16-12. The Padres had never come back from a deficit of 6 or more runs to win, until last night, down by 6 entering the 9th. Manager Andy Green said that ''We went from about as ugly as we could obviously play to as unbelievable as it can possibly be."

In the second inning, Renfroe hit his first homer of the game to give the Padres a 1-0 lead. In the 3rd, David Dahl hit a 2 run homer, and he scored Charlie Blackmon on a groundout in the 4th to make it 3-1. In the 6th, after Daniel Murphy hit a sac fly in the 4th, the Padres added 2 runs, while the Rockies picked up 5 to make it 9-3. Entering the 9th, with the Padres down 11-5, Eric Hosmer singled in 2 runs, Renfroe hit a 2 run homer, and Fernando Tatis hit the game tying 2 run single. In the 12th, Austin Allen doubled in Tatis, Manny Machado doubled home Allen, Renfroe hit a 2 run homer, and Wil Myers scored on a wild pitch to make it 16-11. Blackmon hit a late solo homer to make it 16-12, which held.

Mike Dunn picked up the loss for the Rockies, who gave up the runs in the 9th inning. Dunn said afterwards that ''The team played a great game and I blew it." Craig Stammen got the win for the Padres by pitching a shutout 11th inning, and Kirby Yates finished the Rockies in the 12th. Renfroe said that ''Coming back like that in the eighth, ninth and the 12th was special." The Padres will send lefty Eric Lauer to the mound for game 2 against Colorado's German Marquez.
