Manny Machado returned to Baltimore last night, and was showered with cheers and applause. What he did next was reminiscent of his time with the Orioles. Machado homered and drove in two runs as the San Diego Padres defeated the Baltimore Orioles 8-3. Machado played 7 years for the Orioles before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers last July. Machado said that ''It was awesome, I came back, and like always, the fans did not disappoint. It was good to come back home.''

The Orioles jumped on the board first with a Trey Mancini RBI single in the first inning. In the second, the Padres took the lead on a 2 run single by Manuel Margot and a 2 run homer by Fernando Tatis Jr to make it 4-1. In the 3rd, Machado homered to make it 5-1. The Orioles made it 5-2 in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Dwight Smith Jr. In the 4th, Margot hit a solo homer, and Machado singled in Tatis to make it 7-2. In the 5th, Francisco Mejia homered, and Richie Martin homered in the 7th for Baltimore to make it 8-3.

Machado's homer was his 100th at Camden Yards, and he extended his hitting streak to 12. Manager Andy Green said of Machado that 'He loves this city. He loves the people of this city, to come back immediately and to do what he did today, to homer, I know it meant a lot to his family."  Logan Allen got the win for the Padres, pitching 6 innings and allowing 2 runs on 8 hits. Jimmy Yacabonis allowed 5 runs over 2 2/3 innings, taking the loss. Allen said that ''I struggled a little bit at first but I kind of got into a rhythm, obviously, my teammates picked me up with eight runs.''

The Padres send lefty Matt Strahm to the mound in Wednesday's series finale. Strahm will hope to get his first win since May 21. Dylan Bundy starts for the Orioles, and this is his first time facing the Padres.
