Astros acquire Maldonado

Well, Martin Maldonado is on the move again. After being acquired by the Chicago Cubs on July 15, they have traded him to the Houston Astros in exchange for OF Tony Kemp. He played in just 4 games with the Cubs, going 0-11. His 8 defensive runs saved are tied for second in the majors, so he is still a force behind the plate even though his power numbers have dipped. This is the second straight trade deadline where Maldonado has been acquired by the Astros. They traded for him at last year's deadline from the Los Angeles Angels.

Kemp was DFA'd by the Astros last week. The utility man is in his 4th major league season, and was hitting .227 with 7 homers and 17 RBI prior to being DFA'd. He has made appearances at left and center field, as well as second base. He also is a speedy player, even though he has just 4 stolen bases.
