The Cleveland Indians have traded RHP Trevor Bauer to the Cincinnati Reds as part of a 3 team deal with the San Diego Padres, as first reported by Jeff Passan. The Reds are sending OF Yasiel Puig to the Indians. The Indians are also receiving Franmil Reyes, Victor Nova and Logan Allen from San Diego. Taylor Trammell will go to the Padres from Cincinnati.

Trammell was the number one prospect in Cincinnati's system, giving San Diego even more riches in their farm system, which was already the best in baseball. A rival executive said that "Trammell has a chance to be a star despite the down year. I would trade a designated hitter and a back-end starter any day for that chance, especially when they aren't contenders yet." Bauer has 185 strikeouts over 156 2/3 innings and a 3.79 ERA for Cleveland. He was recently fined for throwing a ball over the center field fence as he was being taken out of a game.

Puig is hitting .255 with 22 homers and 60 RBI for Cincinnati. He was ejected from last night's game against Pittsburgh for his role in another benches clearing brawl minutes after news of the trade broke. Puig said that "I'm going to miss all of my teammates here, this part of the year has been amazing for me, being on this team with my teammates and the city ... I'm leaving a lot of love. Now it's time to move forward and go to my new team and help my team get to the playoffs." Reyes is having a breakout year for the Padres, mashing 27 homers on an .847 OPS. Allen has a 6.75 ERA over 4 starts for the Padres this year.
