The Houston Astros have acquired RHP Zack Greinke and cash from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for prospects Corbin Martin, Seth Beer, J.B Bukauskas, and Joshua Rojas. The Astros have now emerged as world series favorites, as their starting rotation looks scary good. Houston will get $24 million from Arizona, so they will pay the remaining $53 million of Greinke's contract. Astros GM Jeff Luhnow said that the deal was approved by MLB just minutes before the deadline ended. This reminds everyone of the last second trade they made for Justin Verlander in 2017. They won the world series that year.

The Astros didn't stop there. They traded for RHP's Aaron Sanchez and Joe Biagini from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Derek Fisher. Houston also gets prospect Cal Stevenson. Houston's starting rotation is now Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole, Greinke, Wade Miley, and Sanchez. They are loaded. Biagini will provide bullpen help. Sanchez has a 6.07 ERA and Biagini has a 3.86 ERA. Stevenson was the 25th overall prospect in Toronto's system. Fisher has 10 homers and 9 stolen bases over 112 games with the Astros.

The Chicago Cubs have acquired OF Nicholas Castellanos and cash from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for prospects Paul Richan and Alex Lange. Castellanos is hitting .273 with 11 homers this year. Castellanos expressed mixed emotions about the trade, saying that "I'm very excited to be able to go to Chicago and help that team in a pennant race, but when everything slows down, I'm going to miss everything that was in Detroit." Castellanos is slated to be a free agent at season's end.

The Minnesota Twins have acquired RHP Sam Dyson from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for prospects Jaylin Davis, Prelander Berroa, and Kai-Wei Teng. Dyson has a 2.47 ERA with two saves in 49 appearances. He will become a free agent after the 2020 season. Davis is hitting .331 since being promoted to Triple A. Berroa has made 7 starts in rookie ball, posting a 4.55 ERA. Teng has a 1.60 ERA at the Single A level.

The San Francisco Giants have acquired 2B Scooter Gennett and cash from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for a player to be named later. Gennett made his season debut in June after suffering a groin injury during spring training. He got his first all star nomination in 2018 and hit .310 that year. He has played for his hometown team since 2017.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired RHP Mike Leake and cash from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for prospect Jose Caballero. Leake is under contract through 2020, and has a full no trade clause. He quickly waived it, as he lives in Phoenix and can pitch near home. He's owed $18.5 million through the 2020 season. The Cardinals, the team that originally signed him, will pay $4 million of his salary, while the Mariners will pay $6 million. Arizona will pay the rest. Leake has a 4.40 ERA this season. Leake should take Greinke's rotation spot.
