The Boston Red Sox have acquired RHP Andrew Cashner and cash considerations from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for prospects Noelberth Romero and Elio Prado. Cashner will make his first start in a Boston uniform Tuesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays. Cashner is having a solid season so far, posting a 9-3 record with a 3.83 ERA and 66 strikeouts. The move addresses the hole in the back of the rotation for the Red Sox, who didn't have a clear 5th starter once Nathan Eovaldi went down in April. They also needed a starter considering that Eovaldi will be Boston's closer when he returns. Baltimore sent around $1.8 million to Boston in the trade.

The Oakland Athletics have acquired RHP Homer Bailey from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for minor league infielder Kevin Merrell. Bailey has a 4.80 ERA and a 7-6 record so far this year. Bailey will make his A's debut on Wednesday night against the Seattle Mariners. Bailey signed with Kansas City this February after the Dodgers released him after acquiring him in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds. The A's sit in second place in the AL west with a 52-41 record, and currently hold the second wild card spot in the AL.
