In a series the Red Sox needed to sweep, it was looking pretty bleak early on. The Baltimore Orioles jumped on starter Nathan Eovaldi and had a 6-0 after 3 innings. Then, the Sox came all the way back. They scored 13 straight runs and came back to win 13-7 over the Orioles to secure the sweep. Rafael Devers had 4 hits, Sam Travis had a solo homer, and JD Martinez had 3 hits to orchestrate the comeback. The Red Sox, who trail Tampa Bay by 6 1/2 games for the second AL wild card spot, have won 5 straight games as they try to inch closer and closer to the playoffs.

The Orioles got 6 runs early on a 3 run homer by Renato Nunez, a two run double by Trey Mancini, and an RBI double by Hanser Alberto to have a 6-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Red Sox started to chip away on RBI groundouts by Devers and Xander Bogaerts. In the 4th, Travis added his solo shot to make it 6-3. Then came the 6th inning. Christian Vazquez doubled Martinez home, and Mitch Moreland hit a lazy pop fly to Nunez that he had to turn around and spin, and the ball fell as Travis and Vazquez scored to tie the game. Devers gave Boston the lead by doubling Moreland in. Bogaerts hit an infield single and so did Martinez, and two runs score to make it 9-6 Red Sox. In the 7th, Mookie Betts hit a sac fly, Devers whacked a 2 run shot into the right field seats, and Martinez singled in Bogaerts. The Orioles got their 7th run on a Nunez sac fly.

Marcus Walden got the win for Boston, working a scoreless 6th inning. Paul Fry took the loss, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk while getting just one batter out. The Red Sox had to use 6 relievers, including Andrew Cashner, because Eovaldi had such a rough outing. Travis Lakins worked the final two innings to secure the win. Devers, who went 4-5, has 20 hits in his last 37 at bats, with 14 RBI. He now has a total of 101 RBI on the season, which leads the league. The bottom of the 6th, when the Sox scored 6 runs, lasted 39 minutes in total.

The Orioles head back home to welcome the Kansas City Royals to town, where lefty John Means will start for Baltimore. Jorge Lopez will start for the Royals. The Red Sox start a two game series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday at Fenway. Chris Sale was supposed to start, but that won't happen, as he is on the 10 day IL with left shoulder inflammation. Brian Johnson is expected to start in place of Sale. Aaron Nola starts for the Phillies.
