The Atlanta Braves have signed LHP Will Smith to a 3 year, $39 million deal. There is a team option for the 2023 season for $13 million with a $1 million buyout, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The announcement was made minutes after Smith declined the Giants' $17.8 million qualifying offer. Atlanta will now lose a draft pick by signing Smith.

Smith had a good season for the Giants in 2019, putting up 34 saves on 38 save opportunities. Smith went 6-0 with a 2.76 ERA as well. He struck out 96 hitters and was named to the all star game this season. This is a good bullpen upgrade for Atlanta, who had shakiness in the bullpen last year, going through Luke Jackson, Shane Greene, and Mark Melancon as closers last year. Melancon is Smith's former teammate, as they both played together in San Francisco.
