Degrom, Verlander win Cy Young

   New York Mets RHP Jacob Degrom has won the 2019 National League Cy Young award. Degrom won in a landslide, getting 29 of the 30 first place votes. Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu got the other first place vote and finished in second, tying with Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer. Degrom went 11-8 with a 2.43 ERA in 2019, and it is the 4th time that Degrom has been in the top 10 in Cy Young voting in his 6 year career. Degrom is the first Mets pitcher to win in back to back seasons, and the 20th in MLB history to win multiple Cy Youngs.

   Houston Astros RHP Justin Verlander has won the 2019 American League Cy Young award. He received 17 first place votes, beating out fellow teammate Gerrit Cole by 4 first place votes and 12 total points. The Rays' Charlie Morton came in 3rd, a former teammate of both Cole and Verlander. Morton didn't get a single first or second place vote. This is his second time winning the award, with his first coming back in 2011 when he was a member of the Detroit Tigers. Verlander led baseball with 21 wins in 223 innings pitched in 2019.
