The San Francisco Giants have hired former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler to be their next manager, the team announced Tuesday night. Kapler was fired by the Phillies after a disappointing two seasons, in which the team went 161-163. Kapler was introduced today at his press conference. Kapler's contract is for 3 years.

Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said that "Our top priority in the next manager was to find someone who can build strong relationships with our players, coaches, front office, and fans, and someone who has the drive and desire to win, after an exhaustive and comprehensive search, we are delighted to welcome Gabe Kapler as the next manager of the San Francisco Giants." Zaidi and Kapler worked together when they were a part of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in 2015. Houston Astros bench coach Joe Espada and Tampa Bay Rays hitting coach Matt Quatraro were the other finalists for the job. Kapler's hire now leaves the Pittsburgh Pirates as the only team without a manager.
