It's been a little bit, but we're back in action, and here's the NL central offseason preview.

St.Louis Cardinals
What doomed the Cardinals in the NLCS was their lack of offense. The question in St.Louis will be how they plan to improve it. Paul Goldschmidt had a down year, and Marcell Ozuna is a free agent. Matt Carpenter wasn't all that good either. They are great in terms of pitching and defense, but hitting is the big problem in St.Louis.

Milwaukee Brewers
Pitching was the big weakness in Milwaukee last year, as they didn't have any reliable pitchers. They need to fix that in the offseason, and they could target some innings eaters. Chase Anderson is gone, but Brandon Woodruff could emerge as a rotation leader. They won't get Gerrit Cole or Stephen Strasburg, but some second or third tier pitchers could be the answer.

Chicago Cubs
What will the Cubs look like in 2020? Probably retooled. After missing the playoffs, they fired Joe Maddon, and will look for a fresh start with David Ross as the new bench boss. GM Theo Epstein has declared that no one is untouchable in trades, and Nicholas Castellanos is a free agent. The Cubs will be competitive in 2020, but they could look completely different.

Cincinnati Reds
The Reds had holes last season that prevented them from competing. They have been linked to several free agents, but the wonder is if they are willing to pay up to contend. They have some pitching talent, they have strong hitters, but they don't have the piece to complete the puzzle. They have some reinforcements in the system, but they're a few years away. There will be questions that the Reds will answer this offseason. Keep an eye on them.

Pittsburgh Pirates
Will the Pirates blow it up? They look bad right now, and there isn't anything they can do to save it. GM Ben Cherington has his work cut out for him, and it seems everyone will go Starling Marte has been the center of trade rumors lately, and they have some pieces that could be dealt for future value. Basically, they should blow it up this winter, for the good of the team.
