The Pittsburgh Pirates have named Derek Shelton to be their next manager, according to the team. Shelton is replacing Clint Hurdle, who was fired after a bad 2019 filled with drama. Shelton spent the last two seasons as the Minnesota Twins' bench coach. Pittsburgh was previously the only team without a manager, so now all managerial positions are filled.

Shelton said in his press conference that "It is going to be an exciting change of culture in our clubhouse, it is going to be a fun environment in which we will all be held accountable to each other." GM Ben Cherington said that "I have known Derek for more than 15 years and have great admiration for his passion for the game and players, work ethic, curiosity, and desire to learn."
