The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates to send OF Starling Marte to Arizona. The D-Backs are sending two prospects to Pittsburgh in return, SS Liover Peguero and RHP Brennan Malone. Neither team has confirmed the deal, which was first broke by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The Pirates are also reportedly getting $250,000 in international slot money.

Marte had a terrific 2019, hitting .295 with 23 homers and 82 RBI for the Pirates. Marte has spent his entire 8 year major league career with the Pirates, hitting .287 with 108 homers and 420 RBI. Marte will immediately become Arizona's starting center fielder, which allows their breakout star from last season, Ketel Marte, to play second base full time, which is the team's preference. Marte is owed $11.5 million for this season, and there is a club option worth $12.5 million with a $1 million buyout for the 2021 season. Marte was involved in trade discussions all winter, with Arizona and the New York Mets being the most active pursuers of Marte.
