The Washington Nationals have signed infielder Starlin Castro to a two year, $12 million deal, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The deal is pending a physical. Castro is a natural second baseman, but can cover 3rd base as well should the Nats miss out on Josh Donaldson. Castro made 42 starts at 3rd base last season. Castro gives Washington the infield flexibility they need, having played second, third, and shortstop in his career.

Castro is very durable, having played in all 162 regular season games for the Miami Marlins last season, and appeared in at least 110 games in each of his last 10 seasons. Castro hit .270 with 22 homers and 86 RBI in a good year power wise for the Marlins in 2019. Castro is also a 4 time all star. He is also a good contact hitter, ranking 27th in active players in career hits with 1,617, and had 172 hits in 2019.
