Taillon rips owners after latest dispute

Now more than ever, there has been a greater level of pessimism between the MLB and the MLBPA in terms of coming to an agreement to play the 2020 season, leading to increased frustration in both circles. Pittsburgh Pirates RHP Jameson Taillon is one of them. Taillon, who isn't slated to play in 2020 due to Tommy John surgery, took to Twitter to voice his frustrations with the MLB and it's owners over the ongoing dispute.

Taillon replied to a tweet from MLB network insider Jon Heyman, in which Taillon said that "If owners promoted/cared about their own players and game half as much as they care about promoting their agenda during a pandemic, we would have a better chance to find common ground to get baseball back on the field for our amazing fans."

Taillon is still an important voice in the ongoing discussions on the side of the MLBPA because, even though he won't play in 2020 regardless, he is the Pirates player rep for the MLBPA. In that tweet, he said that he believes they would be close to an agreement if the owners cared more about baseball than their own agendas and fortunes.

The MLB rejected the latest proposal from the players association, which was a 114 game regular season with full prorated pay for the players. MLB said that they weren't planning to send a counter proposal to the MLBPA, which now leaves the future of the season in serious doubt. Reportedly, MLB has more recently been mulling a 40-50 game season with full prorated pay, and would only consider a longer season if the players agree to another pay cut. That is something the MLBPA has been adamantly against, given that they have already agreed to a pay cut.
