Samardzija rips owners over fan expectation

San Francisco Giants RHP Jeff Samardzija expects fans to be in the stands at some point during the season, and said that he believes that due to baseball's owners. MLB is starting the season without fans due to the COVID-19 Pandemic worldwide, but Samardzija doesn't believe safety is the top priority among owners.

Samardzija said that "I wouldn't put the carriage before the horse, I think there's going to be fans in the stands. I think we've seen with these owners, they're not scared of anything, and they're not scared to put anyone at risk if they get the opportunity to, especially if it makes them money. So there's going to be people in the stands. They're going to be socially distanced and rows apart, and that's how it's going to be. Owners have already said that's what they want. To the fans, I just want them to be safe, too. If that means they have to watch us from home, so be it."

The negotiations to start a season between the players and owners became intense and heated when the sides had discussions, and it dragged on for months until commissioner Rob Manfred implemented a 60 game season without the approval of the players association. The two sides did reach an agreement on the safety manual that was presented, as well as the schedule for each team, which is expected to be released sometime next week.
