Twins pummel White Sox

   Kenta Maeda's Minnesota Twins debut sure went well. Maeda threw 5 strong innings, Nelson Cruz drove in 7 runs, and the Twins pummeled the Chicago White Sox 14-2 on Sunday, winning in convincing fashion for the first time this season.With this rout, the Twins won the first series of the season.

   Jake Cave got things going for the Twins in the first inning with a grand slam to left field, making it 4-0 early. In the second inning, Cruz hit a 3 run double, Eddie Rosario hit an RBI double, and Luis Arraez hit an RBI single, making it 9-0 Twins. In the 4th, Cruz blasted a solo homer to center field to make it 10-0. In the 5th, Luis Robert hit a two run homer for the White Sox to make it 10-2. In the 8th, Cruz hit a 3 run homer, and Marwin Gonzalez tacked on a solo homer in the 9th to make it 14-2.

   Maeda thew 5 innings, giving up two runs on 4 hits and one walk, striking out 6 hitters. Lewis Thorpe and Matt Wisler pitched in relief. Cave's grand slam in the first was the second of his career, and the Twins are also getting C Willians Astudillo back soon, as he has been cleared to return after consecutive negative tests for COVID-19 after testing positive. Byron Buxton is also scheduled to return Tuesday against St.Louis.

   White Sox starter Reynaldo Lopez lasted just 2/3 of an inning, giving up 4 runs on 3 hits and two walks. Lopez had to leave the game due to injury, as did LF Eloy Jimenez, who injured himself crashing into the wall while trying to rob Cave's grand slam. Gio Gonzalez, Jimmy Cordero, Ross Detwiler, and Kelvin Herrera pitched in relief. The White Sox are slated to get 3B Yoan Moncada back from the COVID-19 IL in time for their upcoming series against the Indians, according to manager Rick Renteria. 

   The Twins head home to start their home game slate with a series against the St.Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, with Homer Bailey making his Twins debut. The White Sox travel to Cleveland to face the Indians on Monday, where Dylan Cease will get the start.
