Free agent Hill plans to keep playing

Despite being 40 years old and hitting free agency yet again, Rich Hill isn't ready to retire from baseball just yet. Hill is still in search of the world series he has yet to win, and will do whatever it takes to improve his chances of getting one.

Hill said to WEEI's Rob Bradford that "Now it's almost looking at Vegas and seeing who is going to win the World Series next year and calling them up, that's how I feel. I want to win a Word Series and I want to be a part of that. I feel like I'm in great shape, I feel like I obviously have the ability to contribute and contribute in a big way."

Hill is coming off a one year deal with the Minnesota Twins for this season, where he posted a 2-2 record with a 3.03 ERA in 8 starts for the Twins, striking out 31 hitters. In his 16 year major league career, Hill has a 67-44 record with a 3.79 ERA in 292 appearances, 164 of them being starts. Hill split his 16 years with the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Twins.

Hill has been effective when healthy ever since he returned to the major leagues with the Red Sox in 2015 following a brief stint in the Independent Leagues. Hill's biggest problem, however, is staying healthy. Hill has hit the injured list with a nagging blister issue in 2019, and missed time at the end of this season due to shoulder fatigue. Hill was a big factor in the Dodgers success in 2016-2019, making the world series twice, but not winning one until this season, his first away from the Dodgers.
