The Boston Red Sox have named Chicago Cubs 3rd base coach Will Venable as their next bench coach, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford. The Red Sox confirmed the hiring this afternoon when they announced their full coaching staff for the 2021 season.

Venable served as the Cubs 3rd base coach in the 2020 season, after previously serving as their first base coach in 2018 and 2019, being a member of the Cubs coaching staff for 3 years. Venable retired after the 2016 season, which he spent with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was also one of 9 candidates to interview for the open managerial position in Boston, which the Red Sox ultimately gave to Alex Cora.

In the announcement, the Red Sox announced that hitting coach Tim Hyers, third base coach Carlos Febles, first base coach Tom Goodwin, assistant hitting coach Peter Fatse, and pitching coach Dave Bush will all return to their respective roles for the upcoming season, while Jason Varitek has been named game planning coordinator, Kevin Walker will be the bullpen coach, and Ramon Vazquez will become the quality control coach.
