Indians signing Rosario away from rival Twins

The Cleveland Indians need outfield help. They've needed outfield help since they let Michael Brantley leave for the Astros prior to the 2019. So what's the remedy? They signed away a player from a division rival. The Indians have signed OF Eddie Rosario to a one year, $8 million deal, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The deal has been confirmed by the Indians.

Rosario had a rather productive year for the Minnesota Twins in 2020, posting a .257 average with a .792 OPS, hitting 13 homers and 42 RBI in 57 games played for the Twins. In Rosario's 6 major league seasons, he is a .277 hitter with a .788 OPS, hitting 119 homers and driving in 388 runs in 697 games played, all spent with the Twins.

The Indians have seen plenty of Rosario over the last 6 seasons, since the Twins and Indians are division rivals, so they have a good gauge of what exactly Rosario will bring to the Indians lineup, which is a good bit of firepower, despite the Twins recent postseason struggles. Indians outfielders had the lowest slugging percentage in the majors, so Rosario is an upgrade for them.

Rosario was non tendered by the Twins in December after they couldn't find a trade partner, and he hit the free agency market for the first time in his career. After things were slow to start, his market started heating up at around the midpoint of January, at which point he was able to agree with the Indians a few weeks later. Besides Rosario, Cesar Hernandez is the only other addition made by the Indians this winter.
