Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna has been arrested on charges of misdemeanor battery and aggravated assault strangulation on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The Fulton County Police Department confirmed the arrest.

The Braves said that they had been notified of the arrest and immediately notified the commissioners office. MLB is expected to launch an investigation into the arrest soon.

The police report said that "In addition to the strangulation attempts, the suspect also struck the victim with his arm which has a cast from a previous injury.(Ozuna sustained broken fingers)”

The penalty carries a minimum sentence of 3 years in jail if convicted, and a maximum of 20 years. The Braves had re-signed Ozuna to a 4 year deal this past winter.
