Now that it has come time to award the Platinum Gloves, the winners should not be of surprise to anyone who has watched baseball this season. St.Louis Cardinals 3B Nolan Arenado and Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa have won the NL and AL Platinum Gloves for the 2021 season, from an announcement made by MLB on Friday night.

Arenado has won 9 gold gloves in his 9 seasons, which is already impressive enough. But he's now also collected his 5th straight Platinum Glove, winning every year from 2017 to this year, his first with the Cardinals coming in his first season with the team this year. Arenado is the only player to win 5 Platinum Gloves in baseball history, never mind 5 in a row.

Arenado was one of the top defenders in the NL this season, with a UZR of 5.7, and an OAA of 10, sitting 11 behind Correa in OAA, In his 9 seasons, Arenado has also collected 136 DRS, which is the second highest number in baseball since DRS was created in 2002.

For Correa, the awards have been more meaningful this season, as he won his first Gold Glove this season, and now takes home his first Platinum Glove. He led baseball with 21 DRS this season, and had the second best defensive rating among AL shortstops.

In terms of team awards, the Cardinals won the NL Gold Glove team award in just the second season of giving out that award, as 5 of the NL Gold Glove winners were from the Cardinals. The Astros won the AL team award, as two winners were from Houston. The Cardinals and Astros were also the top two teams in baseball by DRS, with the Cardinals having 86, and Houston with 76.
