Philadelphia leads series 1-0
On baseball's biggest stage, the Fightin's showed their resilience. Alec Bohm drove in two runs, JT Realmuto homered, and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Houston Astros with a 6-5 victory in 10 innings on Friday night in Houston.

Naturally, it was the Phillies who ended the Astros perfect postseason record in the World Series. Even more spectacularly, they did it after trailing 5-0. The last team to do that in a World Series game was the 2002 Los Angeles Angels. They were led by Bohm and Realmuto, who drove in 5 of the 6 runs.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson talked about the comeback, saying that "All in all, it was a great game, a great come from behind victory, and it just showed the resilience of the club again and how tough they are and they just never quit."

After a scoreless first inning, Kyle Tucker got the Astros started with a solo home run in the second inning, which was followed by an RBI single from Martin Maldonado, making it 2-0 early. With two runners on in the 3rd inning, Tucker hit his second homer of the night, a 3 run shot to open up the lead, making it a 5-0 game.

In the 4th, the Phillies started their comeback. Nick Castellanos was first, hitting an RBI single to make the score 5-1. Bohm then doubled down the left field line to score two runs and make it a 5-3 score. Two runs then scored on a double from Realmuto, tying the game 5-5. In the 10th, a solo homer from Realmuto put the Phillies over the top.

Realmuto said of his 10th inning homer that "I thought I got enough of it, but I kind of had flashbacks of the play that Tucker made on Judge's ball that last series. Once I saw him running back to the wall, I was thinking in my head, ‘Oh, please just don't catch it, just don't catch it.’ I knew it was going to be close."

Aaron Nola started and had a shaky game for the Phillies, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits in just 4 1/3 innings. Jose Alvarado pitched one inning, followed by 1 1/3 innings from Zach Eflin. Ranger Suarez, Seranthony Dominguez, and David Robertson closed out the win from there.

The Astros had Justin Verlander on the mound, and he didn't do better, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, throwing 5 innings. Bryan Abreu pitched the next 1 2/3 innings, with Hector Neris finishing the 7th. Rafael Montero, Ryan Pressly, Luis Garcia, and Ryne Stanek also pitched.

Verlander gave his thoughts on his start, saying it was "Disappointing, yeah, for sure. I need to do better. No excuses. Like I said, just need to execute pitches better. I felt like I had some guys in good situations and just wasn't able to quite make the pitches that I wanted to."

Up next, game two of the series is on Saturday night in Houston. Zack Wheeler starts for the Phillies as they look to take a 2-0 series lead, while Framber Valdez goes for the Astros, looking to tie the series.
