Another baseball legend is calling it a career. Detroit Tigers 1B/DH Miguel Cabrera announced that the 2023 season will be the last of his career on Monday.

Cabrera said in an interview on Monday that "I think it's going to be my last year. It feels a little weird to say that. I thought, I'm not going to say 'never', but I think it's time to say goodbye to baseball."

The 2023 season will be Cabrera's 21st in the majors since debuting for the then Florida Marlins in 2003. He spent his first 5 seasons with the Marlins before being traded to the Tigers, where he has spent the rest of his career. Now, he'll retire a Tiger in the final season of his 8 year, $248 million contract with the Tigers, scheduled to make $32 million this season.

Cabrera has been in 12 all star games, including streaks of 4 in a row from 2004-2007 and 7 in a row from 2010-2016. He is one of just 3 players in baseball history with at least 3,000 hits, 500 home runs, and 600 doubles, with 3,088 hits, 507 home runs, and 607 doubles in 2,699 regular season games in his career.

Also on Monday, Cabrera said that "One of my goals is to play a full season with no injuries, try to help the Tigers to win more games. Because I feel if we can stay healthy, we can improve more in the field. If you don't stay healthy, there's no chance we can win. We had a lot of injuries this year and it hurt us a lot. We'll see if we can stay healthy all year."

The 2022 season was one of the worst statistical years of Cabrera's career. He ended the year with a .254 average, .305 on base percentage, and .622 OPS, mustering just 5 home runs and 43 RBI's in 112 games for the Tigers.

Cabrera is the current active MLB leader in hits with 3,088 after he got his 3,000th hit on April 23 against the Colorado Rockies. His career .308 batting average, 507 home runs, and 1,847 RBI's also lead active players.
