There's some pop on it's way to the Green Monster. The Boston Red Sox and OF Adam Duvall have agreed to a one year, $7 million deal, according to Craig Mish of SportsGrid. The Red Sox have confirmed the addition.

With the addition of Duvall and the loss of Trevor Story due to injury and Xander Bogaerts in free agency, the Red Sox fill a hole in center field, with incumbent center fielder Kike Hernandez shifting to shortstop. Duvall can also play left and right field very well, taking home a gold glove in right field in 2021.

Limited by a sprained right wrist, Duvall had a down year in 2022 with the Atlanta Braves. He ended the season with a .213 batting average and .677 OPS, hitting 12 home runs with 36 RBI's in 86 games, not making an appearance in the postseason.

Duvall has another $3 million in bonuses that can max the deal out at $10 million. His 2021 numbers project him as a bounce back candidate this season. He led the NL with 113 RBI's while blasting 38 home runs, recording a .491 slugging percentage and .772 OPS in 146 games.

In 9 big league seasons, Duvall has suited up for 4 different teams. He has compiled a .230 batting average, .289 on base percentage, and .465 slugging percentage, hitting 163 home runs with 478 RBI's in 830 regular season games, making the All Star Game in 2016. Duvall also had 5 home runs and 18 RBI's in 27 postseason games.

In the outfield, Duvall will be flanked by Masataka Yoshida in left field and Alex Verdugo in right, with Rob Refsnyder serving as the 4th outfielder while Hernandez mans the infield. If Hernandez returns to the outfield this season provided that Story comes back, Duvall can also take reps at DH and the corner outfield spots.

The addition of Duvall makes him the 3rd position player signing, joining Yoshida and Justin Turner. The Red Sox also brought in relievers Chris Martin, Joely Rodriguez, and Kenley Jansen, while signing starter Corey Kluber and extending star 3rd baseman Rafael Devers.
