There's some excitement coming to Northern California. The Oakland Athletics are calling up 1B/C Tyler Soderstrom and 2B/3B/CF Zack Gelof from Triple A Las Vegas, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com on Wednesday.

Both Soderstrom and Gelof will join the A's in Oakland as they open the second half of the season against the Minnesota Twins on Friday night. Soderstrom is ranked as the A's number one prospect according to MLB Pipeline, while Gelof is ranked 3rd.

Soderstrom is a first baseman and catcher who has played at both positions and DH at Las Vegas this season. So far in Triple A this year, Soderstrom has a .254 batting average with a .303 on base percentage and .536 slugging percentage, hitting 20 home runs with 59 RBI's and 15 doubles over 69 games for the Aviators.

In Triple A this season, Soderstrom has played in 24 games at first base, 35 games at catcher, and 10 games at DH. All of those have been starts except for one at DH. Soderstrom recently represented the A's in the All Star futures game in Seattle just before the All Star Break.

A former second round pick, Gelof's promotion comes almost two years to the day when he was drafted by the A's in the 2021 MLB Draft. Gelof has played second base and gotten reps at DH this season, but has also played at 3rd base and center field as recently as last season.

Gelof has spent the entire season with Las Vegas after spending 2022 at Double A Midland and Las Vegas. Gelof has a .304 batting average, .401 on base percentage, and .529 slugging percentage this season, hitting 12 home runs with 44 RBI's, 20 stolen bases, and 21 doubles over 69 games with the Aviators.

The promotions of Soderstrom and Gelof pair them with former top ranked prospect Shea Langeliers in the major leagues. The A's had outfielder Brent Rooker represent them at the All Star Game, being voted in as a DH.
