The Cincinnati kid is coming home. LHP Brent Suter and the Cincinnati Reds have agreed to a one year, $2.5 million contract, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. The Reds have confirmed the deal.

Suter, a native of Cincinnati, said of joining the Reds that "We are super excited, it’s just a dream come true. The Reds were my favorite team of any sport, anything for years and years growing up. This is absolutely surreal, so cool."

In Suter's contract, there are $200,000 available in bonuses based on games pitched. The Reds also hold a $3.5 million option for the 2025 season that comes with a $500,000 buyout. With the Reds looking to build off momentum from a strong 2023 season, Suter is the 3rd reliever signed to shore up the bullpen.

Last season, Suter donned a Colorado Rockies uniform in his 8th major league season. He ended the year with a 3.38 ERA, 3.44 FIP, and 1.298 WHIP, allowing just 3 home runs while appearing in 57 games and throwing 69 1/3 innings.

One thing Suter provides the Reds bullpen is a workhorse option. He's pitched 3 days in a row on plenty of occasions and threw multiple innings in an appearance 24 times with the Rockies last season. He also has experience pitching in the postseason and in high leverage situations during games.

Suter said of the Reds interest in him that "They were one of the first teams to reach out and were pretty consistent in calling us. We kind of knew they were interested. We didn’t know how interested. Here recently, they made some moves and it came together really quick. It was super exciting. It’s been a weird and slow market, especially for relievers this year. There were a lot of calls that were touching base. Here recently, it got really exciting."

Across 8 seasons in the majors, Suter has played for the Rockies and Milwaukee Brewers since debuting in 2016. He has a 3.49 ERA, 1.224 WHIP, and 3.91 FIP to his name, with one career save in 464 innings across 41 starts and 212 relief appearances. He's allowed 3 runs in 2 2/3 innings over two appearances in the playoffs.

Suter becomes the 3rd lefty reliever in a Reds bullpen that has Alex Young and Sam Moll as lefty options. The Reds have spent over $100 million this offseason as they've brought in Frankie Montas, Jeimer Candelario, Emilio Pagan and Nick Martinez while re-signing Buck Farmer.
