Here's another weapon to add to the bullpen mix. The San Diego Padres and LHP Wandy Peralta have agreed to a 4 year, $16.5 million contract, according to Dennis Lin of The Athletic. The deal has been confirmed by the team.

The contract contains opt outs after the first 3 seasons, so the deal could be as short as one year for Peralta. In his entire tenure with the New York Yankees, Peralta never had an ERA above 3.00, although he did struggle with walk rate last season. He provides the Padres with another reliable reliever in the bullpen, and a lefty one at that.

Last season was Peralta's second full and 3rd total season with the Yankees. He ended the year with a 2.83 ERA, 5.05 FIP, and 1.222 WHIP, averaging 5 walks per 9 innings and 8.5 strikeouts per 9 with 4 saves in 63 appearances, throwing 54 innings.

The Padres have gone through major turnover in their bullpen this offseason. Josh Hader and Tim Hill are important arms that are out, with Enyel De Los Santos, Woo Suk Go, Yuki Matsui, and Luis Patino being additions to the bullpen. Starting options have also been added that could end up in the bullpen.

Peralta has played for the Yankees, San Francisco Giants, and Cincinnati Reds over 8 seasons, debuting in 2016. He has a 3.88 ERA, 1.354 WHIP, and 4.50 FIP to his name, picking up 13 saves and throwing 345 2/3 innings, appearing in 385 games. He also has a 3.12 ERA and 1.154 WHIP with one save in 3 2/3 innings, appearing in 7 games in the playoffs.

In his career, Peralta has done best against lefty hitters, holding them to a .638 OPS and allowing 14 home runs. Since he joined the Yankees in 2021, Peralta ranks 12th in ERA, 8th in opposing slugging percentage, and 9th in groundball percentage among qualified hitters.

While the Padres have added Go, Matsui, De Los Santos and Patino, the team has also added pitchers Jhony Brito, Drew Thorpe, Randy Vasquez, and Michael King as they revamp their pitching depth.
