They took the term "walk off" literally. Oliver Dunn homered, William Contreras worked the game winning walk, and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Seattle Mariners with a 6-5 victory Friday in Milwaukee.

The Brewers took advantage of a poor outing by Mariners closer Andres Munoz, working 4 walks in a row in the 9th to win and improve to 5-1 on the season, tops in the NL Central. It's the first game the Brewers have won via a walk off walk since July of 2018 against the Minnesota Twins.

Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy said of working 4 walks in the 9th "That's the name of the game. It’s a simple part of the game, but strikes and balls are what it’s about. Swing at strikes and take balls. Especially when a guy has triple digits and a great slider."

Willy Adames got the scoring started, blasting a solo home run to right field in the second inning to make it 1-0 Brewers. Joey Ortiz followed with an RBI double, scoring Sal Frelick to make it 2-0. Oliver Dunn hit his first major league home run in the 4th to make it 3-0 Brewers. The Mariners tied the game in the top of the 6th on RBI singles from Mitch Haniger and Cal Raleigh, plus an RBI sac fly from Mitch Garver.

Christian Yelich put the Brewers back in front with a solo home run in the bottom of the 6th. Dunn made it 5-3 in the 8th with an RBI single. An RBI double by Luis Urias and RBI groundout from Julio Rodriguez in the top of the 9th tied the game 5-5 for the Mariners. Frelick scored the winning run as Contreras drew the deciding walk.

Dunn said after the game that "So far, we’ve played a lot of tight baseball games. I think it’s something we’re good at. I think over the course of the year, we’re going to end up being one of the teams that’s super good in those close games."

Freddy Peralta handled 5 2/3 innings in his start for the Brewers, allowing 3 runs. Bryan Hudson pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings before Elvis Peguero pitched a scoreless 8th inning. Abner Uribe still got the win despite allowing two runs in the 9th inning.

Logan Gilbert allowed 4 runs in 5 2/3 innings in his start for the Mariners. Cody Bolton added 1 1/3 scoreless innings while Ryne Stanek allowed one run in one inning. Munoz got just one out in the 9th while giving up 4 walks to lose the game.

Raleigh said of Munoz in the 9th that "He just wasn't attacking the zone. Usually, with the stuff that he has, when he's attacking the zone, he's at his best. Walks will kill you. Leadoff walks will kill you. And that's exactly what happened."

The series continues Saturday night. DL Hall takes the mound for the Brewers as they try to go for the series win while the Mariners look to even the series behind Bryce Miller as the starter.
