At the end of the day, a win is a win. TJ Friedl homered and drove in two runs, Jeimer Candelario homered, and the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Milwaukee Brewers with a 6-5 victory Friday night in Milwaukee.

The Reds won for the second game in a row and have wins in 9 of their last 11 games. Despite committing 5 errors in the field and Reds pitchers issuing 8 walks on the mound, they picked up the win anyway. The last time the Reds won a 5 error game was in 1990.

Candelario said after the game that "Like I always said, no matter how you get the W, you want the W. You’ve got to take care of the ball. You’ve got to play clean. You've got to make the play. We made adjustments. We tried to turn the page, inning by inning, playing the game nine innings. And thank God we got the W today for sure."

Friedl got the Reds on the board in the 3rd inning, hitting a solo home run to right field to make it 1-0. William Contreras quickly answered back for the Brewers with a solo shot of his own. Jonathan India hit an RBI single in the 4th to make it 2-1 Reds. In the 5th, Elly De La Cruz hit an RBI triple to make it 3-1 before Candelario hit a two run home run to make it 5-1.

In the 5th inning, Contreras scored on a force out and error to cut the Brewers deficit to 5-2. In the top of the 6th, Friedl added an RBI single to make it 6-2. Blake Perkins scored in the bottom of the 6th for the Brewers on two errors to make it 6-3. In the 9th, Christian Yelich scored on a bases loaded walk and Jackson Chourio hit an RBI single to make it a 6-5 game.

The Reds secured this win in a strange way. After the game tying run for the Brewers was thrown out at the plate in the 9th, Perkins came up with two outs. Trying to get on base, he decided to bunt, but instead it was popped up and Reds closer Alexis Diaz caught the ball to secure the win.

Perkins said of his game ending bunt attempt "Listen, no one is more disappointed in the outcome of the events than me. I guess the best way to put it is I know the guys behind me are statistically better hitters. And I thought it would be a surprise to them and I thought it would be a higher-percentage for me. I just was trying not to be the hero, I guess is the best way to put it, and obviously it was a mistake."

On the mound for the Brewers, starting pitcher Freddy Peralta allowed 6 runs on 10 hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings, getting tagged with the loss. Hoby Milner finished the 6th inning before Elieser Hernandez pitched 3 scoreless innings.

Hunter Greene was the Reds starting pitcher and gave up a pair of runs on 3 hits and 5 walks in 5 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, a combination of Nick Martinez, Justin Wilson, Fernando Cruz, and Diaz each pitched an inning to close out the win, with Diaz getting his 15th save of the season.

Game two of the series is set for Saturday afternoon. Andrew Abbott is the Reds starting pitcher as they go for their 3rd straight win and the series victory. The Brewers counter with Bryse Wilson as they try to even the series ahead of Sunday's finale.
