The home run trident has seen plenty of action. Julio Rodriguez homered and drove in two runs, Cal Raleigh homered twice, and the Seattle Mariners defeated the San Diego Padres with a 8-3 victory Tuesday night in San Diego.

Rodriguez and Raleigh were the big stars for the Mariners, driving in 6 of the team's 8 runs. Rodriguez went 4-4 and fell a triple shy of the cycle, recording his second 4 hit game of the season. The switch hitting Raleigh also homered from both sides of the plate, the second time he's ever done that.

In the first inning, Rodriguez gave the Mariners the early 1-0 lead as he singled to left center field, scoring JP Crawford. In the second, Jorge Polanco scored on a Ty France double, doubling the lead to 2-0. In the 3rd, Raleigh blasted a two run home run to right field to make it 4-0 before Rodriguez hit a solo home run an inning later, making it 5-0 Mariners.

Raleigh hit his second home run of the day in the top of the 7th, with his second two run shot making it 7-0. Jake Cronenworth hit a solo shot for the Padres in the bottom of the 7th to make it 7-1. Kyle Higashioka made it a 7-3 game in the 8th with a two run home run before Victor Robles added an RBI double for Seattle in the 9th to make it an 8-3 final.

Asked about his 4 hit, two RBI performance, Rodriguez said "We play to three strikes, so I feel like I always keep that in my mind whenever I'm competing out there. And that's what I did tonight. There has to be three strikes, and I'm not going to just kind of give that to you."

In his first start since being named an all star, Logan Gilbert allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and one walk in 7 2/3 innings for the Mariners, striking out 7 hitters. Tayler Saucedo finished the 8th in relief and Gregory Santos tossed a scoreless 9th inning to seal the win.

Adam Mazur was the Padres starting pitcher, and he took the loss after allowing 5 runs on 7 hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings. Stephen Kolek pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings before Yuki Matsui allowed two runs in one inning. Austin Davis pitched a scoreless inning before Wandy Peralta and Enyel De Los Santos each pitched the 9th inning.

The short two game series wraps up Wednesday night. Seattle will be looking to win both games as Bryce Miller gets the ball, while Michael King starts for the Padres as they try to split the short series.
