The New York Yankees have acquired OF/2B Jazz Chisholm Jr from the Miami Marlins in exchange for C Agustin Ramirez and infielders Jared Serna and Abrahan Ramirez, according to SportsGrid's Craig Mish. Both teams have confirmed the news.

Chisholm Jr has primarily played center field for the last two seasons but was originally an infielder and has made multiple appearances at second base in the last month as the Marlins were showcasing him for a trade. He comes to the Yankees with multiple years of control, as he won't hit free agency until after the 2026 season.

So far this season, Chisholm Jr is having a solid year for the Marlins. Before the trade, he had a .249/.323/.407 slash line with a 101 OPS+, hitting 13 home runs and 14 doubles while stealing 22 bases to go with 50 RBI's in 101 games.

The home run rate for Chisholm Jr is down this season, but he's reached double digit home runs and stolen bases for the 4th consecutive season. His whiff rate has gone from 35.7 percent in 2023 to 28.6 percent this season, one of the biggest improvements in baseball.

Chisholm Jr has also hit lefties well this season and stayed healthy, two of his biggest concerns entering the year. He's already played more games in 2024 than he did in 2023 and his batting average and on base percentage against lefties is up compared to last season. Chisholm Jr is a better defender in the infield than the outfield, so that's likely where he slots in with the Yankees.

One piece the Marlins get back is the catcher Ramirez, ranked as the 20th overall prospect in the Yankees farm system. Between Double A and Triple A this season, he has a .269/.358/.505 slash line with a .862 OPS, hitting 17 doubles and 20 home runs with 18 stolen bases and 69 RBI's in 87 games.

Serna was ranked one spot ahead of Ramirez in the Yankees farm system, sitting at 19th overall. He has spent the entire year with the High A Hudson Valley Renegades, posting a .253/.341/.444 slash line with a .785 OPS, hitting 13 home runs and 26 doubles with 58 RBI's and 11 stolen bases across 88 games.

The infielder Ramirez is playing his first season stateside and is outside of the Yankees top 30 prospects. Playing for the FCL Yankees, he has a .348/.447/.513 slash line with a .960 OPS, hitting 14 doubles and a pair of home runs with 24 RBI's in 49 games.

This trade goes as the Yankees' first of the trade deadline season, while the Marlins had previously traded reliever AJ Puk to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
