Seth Brown drove in 3 runs, Shea Langeliers had a 4 hit, 4 RBI game, and the Oakland Athletics rolled past the New York Mets with a 9-4 victory Tuesday night in Queens.

In the opening game of a 3 game set, the A's picked up their 3rd straight win and 6th in 10 games. A win either Wednesday or Thursday would guarantee the A's their 7th series win out of their last 9. Since July 1, they're 21-13 with a .618 winning percentage, the AL's best winning percentage in that span.

Langeliers said of the A's run since July "It proves what we're capable of. The next step is being consistent, and we’re proving since the All-Star break that we can do it. We can play these playoff-contending teams and win. All it’s doing for us is building confidence."

With the bases loaded in the first inning, Brown doubled to center field, scoring all 3 runners to make it 3-0 A's. Jose Iglesias got the Mets on the board in the second inning to make it 3-1. In the 3rd inning, Brent Rooker scored on a Miguel Andujar sac fly to make it 4-1 before a 3 run home run to center field by Langeliers made it a 7-1 game.

Jesse Winker gave the Mets another run in the 5th, hitting a double to right field that scored Francisco Lindor. Winker and Brandon Nimmo then scored on a two run single by Pete Alonso that made it 7-4. In the 6th inning, Miguel Andujar scored Rooker with an RBI single before JJ Bleday scored on a Langeliers double to make it 9-4.

Oakland manager Mark Kotsay said of Langeliers' 4 hit game "Lang is swinging the bat really well. It was impressive that he came out again today and threw up another four-hit game. When he gets hot and he gets locked in and feels good about his swing, he definitely is an offensive threat."

Joe Boyle allowed 4 runs in 4 innings in his start for the A's, striking out 6 hitters while allowing 7 hits and 3 walks. In relief, the A's saw 5 pitchers hurl a scoreless inning. Austin Adams, Scott Alexander, Michel Otanez, TJ McFarland, and Tyler Ferguson kept the Mets at bay to seal the win.

Making the start against his old team, Paul Blackburn gave up 7 runs in 4 innings in his start for the Mets. Jose Butto allowed a pair of runs in two innings before Ryne Stanek, Phil Maton, and Edwin Diaz pitched scoreless innings.

Blackburn said after the game "It’s not being able to make a pitch when I need to make a pitch. Going out there and giving up a three spot is not setting up for any kind of success or momentum for the offense. Tough road trip, I was hoping to come here and get through the first quickly and give the guys a chance on the offensive side. That didn’t work out tonight."

Game two of the series is lined up for Wednesday night. Joey Estes takes the mound for the A's as they go for the series win, while David Peterson starts for the Mets as they try to snap their 4 game losing streak.
