Here comes the rout. Willi Castro drove in 3 runs, Royce Lewis homered and had 3 RBI's, and the Minnesota Twins defeated the Chicago White Sox with a 13-7 victory Sunday afternoon in Minnesota.

The Twins swept the 3 game series against the White Sox, winning their 4th straight game and 7th out of 10. They sit comfortably in a wild card spot and are 4 1/2 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the AL Central lead, which is important ahead of a series between the two next weekend.

Minnesota starting pitcher Simeon Woods-Richardson said after the game "It's a very important stretch for us. And this is the time where everyone needs to focus up, lock in and take it one pitch at a time."

In the first inning, the Twins took a 2-0 lead on an RBI single and a fielding error. In the second inning, the Twins opened up their lead even more on an RBI double by Castro, an RBI single by Trevor Larnach, a 3 run home run by Lewis, and an RBI triple by Matt Wallner to make it 8-0. In the 3rd inning, Andrew Vaughn had an RBI double and Lenyn Sosa added an RBI single to make it an 8-2 game.

Lewis talked about his home run, saying "You have to take what's thrown at you. They're throwing, it seems like, away. That's the approach from the league right now, which is great, because I like my numbers right now."

Brooks Baldwin added another run for the White Sox with an RBI single in the 4th. In the top of the 7th, Andrew Benintendi hit a two run homer to make it 8-5. The Twins added two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-5. In the 8th, Vaughn and Luis Robert Jr hit RBI doubles to make it 10-7. In the 8th, Lewis scored on a bases loaded walk and Castro provided a two run single to make it a 13-7 final.

Woods-Richardson was the starter for the Twins and allowed 3 runs in 4 innings pitched. Cole Sands pitched two scoreless innings before Jorge Alcala and Randy Dobnak each allowed two runs. Steven Okert finished the 8th inning and Trevor Richards pitched a scoreless 9th inning.

Chris Flexen was tagged for 8 runs while lasting just 1 2/3 innings in his start for the White Sox. Sammy Peralta pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings before Prelander Berroa allowed two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Fraser Ellard had a scoreless outing and Steven Wilson allowed 3 runs in one inning.

The loss for the White Sox marked 20 straight losses for the team, one loss shy of the AL record set by the Baltimore Orioles in 1988. The expansion era record is 23 straight losses by the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies, while the all time record is 26 straight losses by the 1889 Louisville Colonels.

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said of the losing streak "We haven't won a game in weeks. To watch these guys give it everything they’ve got after getting down 8-0 in the second is a tribute to the character we have on this team. We have to keep doing that. It’s not going to do us any good to put our head down and head to Oakland and not play baseball the right way."

The Twins hit the road as they start a series against the Chicago Cubs Monday night, with David Festa starting the series opener. The White Sox face the Oakland Athletics Monday night as they try to avoid tying the AL record for consecutive losses behind starting pitcher Ky Bush, making his MLB debut.
