MLB News-post all star break

Well, we have just concluded the All star break, and some interesting things have gone down:
1. The Cleveland Indians acquired Relievers Brad Hand and Adam Cimber from the San Diego Padres in exchange for Indians top prospect Francisco Mejia. The move deepens the Indians bullpen, which has been worked hard by manager Terry Francona this year.
2. The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired SS Manny Machado from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for 5 prospects. Machado has made an immediate impact with his new club, batting 2nd throughout the Dodgers' series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
3. The Oakland Athletics have acquired closer Jeurys Familia from the New York Mets for prospects, highlighted by top prospect Will Toffey, a standout from Vanderbilt University, a good Baseball program.
4. The Houston Astros are once again talking to the Baltimore Orioles about closer Zach Britton. Houston needs bullpen help this season, as it has been ineffective as late, and the 'Stros need a closer after demoting Ken Giles earlier this month. Britton is set to hit free agency this winter and figures to be sought-after by teams needing a strong arm in the bullpen.
5. The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly talking to the Toronto Blue Jays about Left Fielder Curtis Granderson. The Phillies view him as a productive lefty off the bench and could occasionally start a few games. This could be a good deal for the Phillies, who are looking to make the playoffs this year, and Granderson has had a resurgence this year, so to speak.
6. The Baltimore Orioles figure to be putting on a fire sale at the trade deadline. Aside from already dealing Manny Machado and the talks about Zach Britton, Jonathan Scoop, Kevin Gausman, and Dylan Bunny have received interest from a few teams. The Atlanta Braves have inquired about the trio, while the Milwaukee Brewers have asked about Schoop and Gausman. The New York Yankees have also asked about Gausman's availability.
7. Chicago Cubs GM Theo Epstein has said he would like to improve the team's bullpen at the trade deadline, but he did not specify as to who he is interested in. Epstein told MLB.com's Carrie Muskat on Sunday that "You're always looking to upgrade this time of year when you have a competitive team,"No matter how well your 'pen has pitched, there's always a desire to look around and see if you can tweak it and improve it. You're always cognizant of the fact that you can address it after July 31.
Stay tuned for a big trade deadline special coming a few days after the deadline!
