Arenado gets hearty extension from Rockies

Nolan Arenado has forced the New York Yankees to commit to Miguel Andujar. He also just got paid. Ken Rosenthal broke the news 3 hours ago that Arenado and the Rockies have agreed to an 8 year, $260 million extension. The extension will reportedly start this year, which nullifies the $26 million that Arenado would get with the 1 year deal he signed earlier this winter to avoid arbitration. I personally like this extension because Arenado seems happy in Colorado, will get the payday he deserves, and he spurns the Yankees, who reportedly were interested in acquiring him. From a Red Sox fan, thanks Nolan for not going to New York! Arenado's contract makes him the highest paid postition player in MLB History, passing Miguel Cabrera's $31 million contract. Arenado will make $32.5 million this season. Arenado's contract is also the fourth largest in history, trailing Giancarlo Stanton, Alex Rodriguez, and Manny Machado. Arenado has averaged 40 home runs a year while hitting .297 over the last four seasons. The Rockes are now able to keep their two stars, Arenado and Charlie Blackmon, in Denver for the long haul. For reference, Blackmon got a 6 year extension in April that starts this year.
