Boxberger added by Royals

The Kansas City Royals have signed reliever Brad Boxberger to a 1  year, $2.2 million deal earlier today, according to MLB.com. Boxberger can earn another $1 million in bonuses, according to Jon Heyman. The Royals need a closer after trading RHP Kelvin Herrera to the Washington Nationals in July of 2018. Boxberger and reliever Wily Peralta will compete for closer in spring training. The 30 year old saved 32 games for Arizona last year, striking out 12 batters per nine innings. He also has a high walk rate, with just over 5 walks per nine innings. He saved 41 games for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2015, and appeared in the all star game that year.
