How's this for revenge? Anthony Santander homered, James McCann went deep and drove in 3 runs, and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Mets with a 9-5 victory Tuesday night in Queens.

After losing game one of the series, the Orioles bounced back in game two, getting 9 runs and 11 hits off Mets pitching to tie the series. It was particularly special for McCann, who had a big day against the team that is paying him money this season to not play for them.

Santander got the Orioles on the board in the first inning with a two run home run to center field, his 37th homer of the year. In the second, McCann made it 3-0 with a sac fly that scored Colton Cowser. In the 3rd, Mark Vientos made it 3-1 with an RBI double. The Orioles made it 6-1 in the 4th on an RBI single by Ramon Urias and a two run home run by McCann, his 4th of the season.

Baltimore manager Brandon Hyde said of McCann's big day "I think that any time you're facing a team that you previously played for, there's always a little extra motivation. I know that that homer felt good. It was a beautiful swing. It ended up being a huge hit for us."

Eloy Jimenez added an RBI double in the 5th inning, padding the Orioles lead to 7-1. In the 8th inning, Brandon Nimmo cut the deficit to 7-2 with an RBI double before JD Martinez hit a 3 run home run to make it a 7-5 game. Gunnar Henderson singled in the 9th, which, combined with a pair of throwing errors, scored two runs to make it 9-5 Orioles.

Dean Kremer allowed one run on two hits and 3 walks while striking out 7 hitters in 6 innings in his start for the Orioles. Cionel Perez pitched a scoreless 7th before Burch Smith allowed 4 runs in the 8th. Yennier Cano got out of trouble that inning before Craig Kimbrel got the final two outs in the 9th.

Jose Quintana was tagged for 7 runs on 8 hits and two walks in 5 innings in his start for the Mets. Adam Ottavino, Ryne Stanek, and Huascar Brazoban each delivered a scoreless inning before Danny Young was charged with two runs in the 9th inning.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said of Quintana's tough start "He has to continue to work, try to get through it, because we are going to need him. Today, a couple of pitches up in the zone. Today, he struggled with pitch sequencing. We probably need to do a better job there. He threw a hanging breaking ball to Santander, and then he threw a fastball that looks like McCann is right on it.

The series win is up for grabs Wednesday afternoon in the finale. Cole Irvin was called up from Triple A to start for the Orioles, while the Mets send a lefty starter of their own in Sean Manaea to the mound.
