Bryce Harper signs with Phillies

Sheesh. It happened. Free Agent Bryce Harper is no longer a free agent. Jeff Passan and Jon Heyman report that Harper has signed a 13 year, $330 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. This deal reportedly doesn't include any opt outs, as Harper reportedly didn't want one. The Phillies have now skyrocketed to NL east favorites and now have a very real chance to win the pennant this season. As soon as I started to hear rumors that the Phillies would give Harper what he desired, I knew he would sign with them, I'm just surprised it took this long. Harper's contract is an overall record, surpassing Giancarlo Stanton's $325 million contract he signed with the Marlins before being traded a few years into it. Harper also has a full no trade clause in his contract. Harper gets a $20 million signing bonus. Harper is expected to earn around $25.3 million yearly, and he got a record $45 million offers from other teams, but those deals were for shorter periods of time, while Harper chose Philly because he could stay in one place for a long time. Harper also gets to stay with the Phillies until a year or two before he turns 40.
