Nola gets extension from Phils

Aaron Nola just got a hearty extension. The Philadelphia Phillies avoided arbitration with their ace by signing him to a 4 year, $45 million extension, according to Ken Rosenthal, Matt Gelb, and Jeff Passan. There is a team option for 2023, reportedly worth $16 million. The deal covers Nola's arbitration eligible years, plus at least 1 year of free agency, 2 if the option is exercised. Nola earns $4 million this year, followed by $8 million in 2020, $11.75 million in 2021, and $15 million in 2022. Nola also gets a $2 million signing bonus. Nola's hearing was scheduled for tomorrow. The 25 year old posted a 2.37 ERA with 224 strikeouts in a breakout year, and finished 3rd in NL Cy Young voting.
