Goldschmidt extended by Cardinals

The St.Louis Cardinals and 1B Paul Goldschmidt have reportedly agreed to a 5 year, $130 million extension, according to Ken Rosenthal. The extension will start next year and will run through 2024. This is the largest contract in team history. Goldschmidt gets a full no trade clause and no opt outs, according to Rosenthal. The deal will become official if Goldschmidt passes a physical on Friday, and a press conference is set for Saturday.

The Cardinals traded for Goldschmidt earlier this winter, and he will earn $14.5 million in the final year of his deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks that he signed in 2014. Goldschmidt is a 3 time NL MVP finalist, 3 time gold glove first baseman, and four time silver slugger recipient. In 158 games last year, he hit .290 with 33 home runs and 83 RBI.
